Nangkiewirat Producer Groups cultivates potato in Pomahir Village of Mawrykneng Block. During the FOCUS Program, held at Mawrynkneng, Bariton Kharsyntiew, one of the member group shared his group’s story and said “In the process of cultivating potatoes, we come across many challenges. And among the many challenges, the most common problem was with pricing. Now, I believe that with the support of FOCUS program, it will help in uplifting the critical condition of the farmers and enhancing overall farm production. I would like to thank the BDO of Mawryngkneng C&amp;RD Block for bringing this program and supporting the farmers for better livelihood.

Belinda Kharsati, a resident of Pomahir village in Mawryngkneng block belongs to Progressive Farming Producer Group. This group of farmers produces tomatoes for their living. However, post the the pandemic hit, the group had faced financial challenges. In the words of Belinda Kharsati, she was facing issues and challenges due to pandemic as the demand for the tomatoes in the market came down, which depreciated the price of the produce. Not only this, with no market demand, she was not able to sell her produce that perished the produce. Today, Belinda is glad to be associated with FOCUS Program, as it has helped her to manage the plight of her co-producers. While receiving the funding under the FOCUS, she expressed her gratefulness to the government and said that she is going to make the best use of this fund and utilize it to enhance her production in the coming years.&nbsp;

The Government of Meghalaya is committed towards the growth of the farmers in Meghalaya and has supported the farmers and Producer Groups (PGs) under FOCUS Program. In a recent visit to Williamnagar in Garo Hills, HCM Conrad K Sangma interacted with the farmers and PGs of Bakhpara, Resubelpara block and provided financial support of Rs 27.35 lac to 35PGs.&nbsp;Additionally, a total of Rs 10.50 lakhs was given to 20 PGs in Asimgere and Dalu Block of West Garo Hills. These PGs are into the production of Vegetables, Spices, Ginger and Pig rearing and are planning to increase their production for better livelihood.&nbsp;With the support, the group will be able to run its operation profitably and earn additional income for each member. Mr. Pritington Ch Marak, secretary of Rongsak Songma Producer Group expressed deep gratitude to HCM Shri. Conrad K Sangma and Government of Meghalaya for this financial assistance and hope that the Government will continue to support them in future as well.

In the interview Mr.Manseng said that he and the members were very happy to receive mobilisation funding support of Rs.50, 000/- under FOCUS scheme from HCM.Shri Conrad Sangma. The group wanted to do the farming of arecanut but always faced challenge of getting fund from any sources. Mr.Marak said that the group will use the Rs.50,000/- amount for starting a arecanut sapling nursery. This initiative will enhance the income of each member of the SHG. Mr.Manseng on behalf of his group expressed deep gratitude to HCM Shri.Conrad Sangma for this financial assistance and hope that HCM will support in similar way in future also.

Mr. Armstrong Shylla runs a Producer Group named Na Dyngkhong Ki Nongrep in Mawkyrwat Block of South West Khasi Hills. Under FOCUS, this group of 15 members, has received a mobilization support fund cheque of Rs. 75,000/-, under which every member has received Rs 5,000/- from Sh. Conrad K Sangma, Hon'ble Chief MinisterWith this fund, Mr. Armstrong believes that the group member will be able to invest the amount in buying quality seeds, better farm equipment, better packaging and generate surplus produce for their farm. He said that the group will attend training and regular meeting will be organized for the farmer, that will enhance productivity and profitability for all members. He believes that FOCUS scheme definitely have positive socio-economic impact on the producer group member’s level and will bring economic of scale in the agri and agri-allied sector. He thanked Sh. Conrad Sangma Hon’ble Chief Minister for visiting Mawkyrwat and having a direct interaction with the Producer Group.

Mr.Gerith, secretary of Ambeng Producer Group believed that his group has dreams and aspirations of better livelihood through farming if Areca Nut. However, shortage of funding was always an obstacle to their ambitions.FOCUS scheme looks to support them in their journey through various interventions. A mobilization funding support of Rs. 70,000/- was granted to their 14 member group to help them initially. To Mr. Gerith, this is an opportunity they were waiting for and to add icing to the cake , the cheque was handed over by Hon’ble CM. Mr. Gerith was delighted with the gesture of Government of Meghalaya. He assured his group will use the fund for farming activities and work hard to enhance the farming production. Mr.Gerith expresses deep gratitude to the HCM Shri.Conrad Sangma on behalf of his group.&nbsp;

FOCUS- Farmers’ Collectivization for Upscaling Production and Marketing Systems – Support in Funding, Value Chain development, machinery support, market linkages, transportation, and aggregation of produce are a few of its services. An initial mobilization fund of Rs.5000/- to each member of the producer group is provided. The program aims to enhance the livelihood of Meghalaya’s farmers through interventions across the value chain.

Umtyrkhew Producer Group from Mynriang Village produces 100 tonnes of ginger annually. The group was facing challenges related to sales and better price realization for their produce. One of the members of the group, Super Rngai shared his experience and the challenges that they were facing in the past few years. He said “There are various challenges when it comes to sales, as ginger cultivator, we were not getting the right price for our produce. For me, the FOCUS program held today i.e. 16th Sep, 2021 is so valuable and I feel blessed to have been a part of this program. Besides the funding that we have received today, for our producer group, we have also received training and mentorship on how to increase our group activities and yield in the future. Today, I truly feel that FOCUS is like a blessing for all the farmers and our group”.
